This data may be processed for the purposes of providing editorial/writing services to you. The legal basis for this processing is my legitimate interests, namely the proper administration of my website and business.

2.8 I may process any of your personal data identified in this policy where necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims, whether in court proceedings or in an administrative or out-of-court procedure. The legal basis for this processing is my legitimate interests, namely the protection and assertion of my legal rights, your legal rights and the legal rights of others.

The legal basis for this processing is my legitimate interests, namely the proper protection of my business against risks.

4. International transfers of your personal data

4.1 In this Section 4, I provide information about the circumstances in which your personal data may be transferred to countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA).

4.2 You acknowledge that personal data that you submit for publication through my website or services may be available, via the internet, around the world. I cannot prevent the use (or misuse) of such personal data by others.

5. Retaining and deleting personal data

5.1 This Section 5 sets out my data retention policies and procedure, which are designed to help ensure that I comply with my legal obligations in relation to the retention and deletion of personal data.

5.2 Personal data that I process for any purpose or purposes shall not be kept for longer than is necessary for that purpose or those purposes.

5.3 I will retain your personal data as follows:

(a) name and postal address will be retained for a minimum period of seven years following their most recent use on invoices and my records to comply with obligations to HMRC, the UK tax authority, and for a maximum period of seven years following such use. I will also retain your telephone number/s, if given, for seven years, but I will delete these from my records sooner if you request this;

(b) email address will be retained for seven years following its last use in correspondence with you, and I may retain emails for up to seven years;

(c) data you send to me in files/hard copy for proofreading/editing or for reference when carrying out editorial/copywriting services (including electronic documents) will be retained for a minimum period of seven years following receipt, but I will delete these from my records sooner if you request this. The maximum period of retention of data you send to me in files/hard copy for proofreading/editing or for reference when carrying out editorial/copywriting services (including electronic documents) will be determined based on whether these will be needed for carrying out future work. 5.4 I store emails and email addresses on my password-protected email account. I do not keep an external record of these. 5.5 I store your files and my records on my computer's hard drive, back-up USB and password-secured cloud storage (Dropbox). 5.6 Notwithstanding the other provisions of this Section 5, I may retain your personal data where such retention is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which I am subject, or in order to protect your vital interests or the vital interests of another natural person.

6. Amendments

6.1 I may update this policy from time to time by publishing a new version on my website.

6.2 You should check this page occasionally to ensure you are happy with any changes to this policy.

7. Your rights

7.1 You may instruct me to provide you with any personal information I hold about you; provision of such information will be subject to:

(a) the supply of appropriate evidence of your identity (for this purpose, I will usually accept a photocopy of your passport certified by a solicitor or bank plus an original copy of a utility bill showing your current address).

7.2 I may withhold personal information that you request to the extent permitted by law.

7.3 You may instruct me at any time not to process your personal information for marketing purposes.

7.4 In practice, you will usually either expressly agree in advance to my use of your personal information for marketing purposes, or I will provide you with an opportunity to opt out of the use of your personal information for marketing purposes.

8. About cookies
